De Soto businessman sentenced for failing to pay tax withholdings
A federal judge on Friday sentenced a De Soto businessman who admitted to conspiring to defraud the government of tax money.
Charlie James, 43, was ordered to pay $215,000 in restitution and to serve one year of probation. Prosecutors say James was co-owner of KC United LLC, which owned several contracting companies.
In April 2011, three of the subsidiaries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. James was required to continue to withhold payroll taxes from employees during the bankruptcy…
