A Kansas City restaurant that has generated a trio James Beard Award honorees now has a new top chef. The American hired Michael Olson as executive chef, effective immediately, the restaurant said in a release. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Olson, who previously worked at the Crown Center restaurant. Kansas legislators approved — and Gov. Laura Kelly is expected to sign — a bill legalizing sports betting, and most of the revenue it produces will go into a kitty to help get the Kansas City Chiefs to jump the state line. People could place bets using apps or going to state-owned casinos or as many as 50 other locations, with a 10% tax accompanying each bet, The Associated Press reports. While retirement is supposed to be the easy life, it wasn’t for former area hospital CEO Sam Turner. At least not the first time.
