University of Kansas Health System surpasses ‘grim’ milestone for Covid deaths
The University of Kansas Health System said Tuesday that it had surpassed 500 Covid-19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
The health system said that, as of Monday, it had recorded 503 deaths due to Covid-19. As grim as news of passing the milestone is word that the system recorded 13 of those deaths already in September.
During a Tuesday update, the system said it was treating 59 Covid-19 patients, up from 55 on Friday. Of that total, just 10 are fully vaccinated.

Legal Aid elevates veteran to executive director
Legal Aid of Western Missouri appointed a longtime executive as its new leader.
Alicia Johnson is the new executive director of the nonprofit, succeeding Joseph Dandurand, who retired this month after leading the organization for four years. The move is a promotion for Johnson, who has been deputy executive director for the past seven years, according to a release. She’s been with Legal Aid since 2010.
