Compass Minerals makes cuts to corporate staff

A Kansas City-based public company’s steps to cut costs hit its corporate staff, in the form of a sizeable layoff. Compass Minerals International Inc. (NYSE: CMP) cut 48.5 full-time-equivalent positions, or about 16% of its corporate workforce, earlier this month. The Overland Park offered affected employees severance packages and outplacement services and expected to take about $3.3 million in related charges, it said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Noted Kansas City restaurant, civic figure Carl DiCapo dies

Carl DiCapo, whose rise on the Kansas City restaurant scene led to a second career as a civic giant, died at age 95. DiCapo took a job as a cashier at Italian Gardens Restaurant in the early 1950s when his brother-in-law needed help. From there, he rose to help make the restaurant a mainstay of downtown Kansa City, both as a place to eat and to meet others. NFL Draft in Kansas City draws big numbers — in person and on air

Kansas City’s turn on the NFL Draft stage appeared to be the big win that the league and city officials had hoped for. The three-day festival of football attracted more than 312,000 people — topping projections of 250,000-300,000.
