The Kansas City-based engineering and design firm has made several moves to keep up with work it's doing in the Great Lakes region.

News of the agreement with Central States Funds came just hours before a planned strike that Yellow Corp. said would bankrupt the company.

The company sought a temporary restraining order in federal court, saying a strike would force a liquidation, killing 30,000 jobs as Yellow wrestles with looming debt maturity. The union argued that Yellow's board manufactured this issue when it chose at the last minute not to make health and pension fund payments. "This is not a pretty situation for anyone involved," the judge said.
