A new take on an old building material is gaining momentum in U.S. construction, in large part driven by rising demand for sustainable options.
Mass timber, virtually unheard of a decade ago, now has been used in the construction or design of more than 2,100 multifamily, commercial or institutional mass timber projects nationwide, according to nonprofit WoodWorks. As of March, Missouri had 10 mass timber structures under construction or built, with 18 in design. Kansas had three and four, respectively.
