Decades of revitalization efforts have dovetailed with the type of successes that can’t be planned in a serendipitous moment for downtown Kansas City. Downtown, formerly a staid workplace for 60,000 by day and a virtual ghost town by night, now hosts 122,000 employees — more than a third of the city’s workforce — as well as 33,000 residents, making it the equivalent of the metro’s 11th-largest city.
The area drew more than 10.5 million tourists in the first quarter alone.
