A second Kansas City-area man has landed in prison for his role in a $346 million scheme in which a construction company received federal contracts after falsely claiming it was owned by a disabled veteran. Gov. Laura Kelly signed a bill that will legalize betting on sports at state-affiliated casinos in Kansas, at certain stadiums, in restaurants and at some nonprofits. The state will levy a 10% tax on wages, and much of that revenue will be directed to a fund to provide incentives for pro sports teams looking to move.

Leawood-based AMC Entertainment Holdings plans a big upgrade to its projection with new laser-based systems that the chain says will offer enhanced visuals. The rollout starts later this year and will wrap in 2026 with 3,500 screens offering "Laser at AMC."
