Energy emergency brings blackouts to KC metro as record cold temperatures continue
Power companies that oversee electricity use in the Kansas City metro have announced they will begin rolling, temporary blackouts as a way to conserve energy during record cold temperatures.
Evergy Inc. and Independence Power & Light, a city-owned utility, both announced they would begin to shut off sections of power Monday afternoon. The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities, which serves Kansas City, Kansas, announced the same steps later Monday afternoon.
